what is DD-WRT hardware and does this help with anonymity.

You can check their website for the supported routers, btw, they were inactive for a while!
I think it's more secure and gets more updates than the stock router firmware (less vulnerabilities), and offers more functionality and features.

DD-WRT is @ the moment still free software made by a guy named BrainSlayer. I've been following a lot of what he did and a couple of months ago i re-flashed my first router using the software for educational purposes. It's actually sort of a jailbreak for your router as it gives you way more options and possibilities that a standard out-of-the-box router does not support. For instance you can change the transmitting power or re-route all your traffic, there's vpn-support, Qos-support, Kaid daemon, wireless MAC filter, wireless MAC adress cloning, etc... If no one has done a tutorial on this, i might do one after the holidays when i reviewed all of its function's..
