Yes, just be sure you are using a high-anonymous proxy and not a transparant one. You could also refer this guide by OTW:

for the first question: you can go to edit > profile preference > color (it change depending on the distributions)
and to change the root@elliot$ (the prompt) you have to modify the variable PS1 on the .bashrc file.
