  • To change the grub background add this line: GRUB_BACKGROUND='/path/to/image' to your /etc/default/grub file and run the command update-grub
  • To change the login background copy your image to /usr/share/images/desktop-base and rename it to login-background.png then reboot.

Login screen .png is stored at /usr/share/images/desktop-base/login-background.png
Boot Screen is located at your Live flash ( you can browse it in windows) at usb:\isolinux\splash.png

/usr/share/images/desktop-base
replace " kali-grub.png " with images u want to use
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme replace "KaliLogin.png"

as my test , @jMXS right. and GRUBBACKGROUND also work

running Kali 2.0 and tried all these things and none worked to change the login screen (not the lock screen or the grub screen, but the login screen).

what did work was replacing the file:
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/KaliLogin.png
with a new .png image.

you need to run update-grupb2

hey guys,

i just made a short video how to change it on kali rolling , works fine.

check it out
