Forum Thread: Should Peer-to-Peer File Sharing Be Illegal?

Presently, the sharing of copyrighted material like music, TV shows and movies is considered illegal and enforced by DMCA with draconian zeal. Some believe that the intellectual property laws drafted 200 years ago are out-of-date and should be revised in our digital age. If I legitimately buy a movie shouldn't I have a right to share it with my 1 million closest friends?

Yes, you're right. But in capitalist America where the goal is to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible - this wouldn't work.

I'm a music producer and I give all my music away for free. I only earn income from live shows - things that I consider MY time being taken away from me. Why would I charge someone 2 dollars to listen to MY music? It makes no sense to me from an artist standpoint.
