Feds arrest several in connection to Drugs on Tor networks 'Silk Road'

Well, it happened. US agents arrested a bunch of drug dealers running a huge international LSD ring from The Silk Road. Though they refuse to explain how they tracked them down... is this a killer strike for the Tor network? Did these people do other things that allowed for their arrests?

What do you think?

I'd say it was the money that got them caught. If there's cash involved, that's probably how they tracked them. Greed is a b***h.

I have to agree, though the Tor network does have its faults. My guess it was human intel that tipped them off in the first place and by building their case they were able to use certain knowledge they had of him to track and trace him through all of it. But this is pretty new and all guessing right now.

I was intrigued when I first saw this and took a look at it. Many sellers on that site seem to stick to a similar motto: "Only accepts BTC, any other form of payment will be completely ignored."

Also, on the note of breaking that barrier from virtual presence to physical being: https://panopticlick.eff.org/
Some information theory stuff. Check out the "Information" link, and I would even recommend reading the whole pdf.

Yeah, as of right now BTC (while having it's own issues) is the best option.

so much for the silk road and the whole "deep web" "darknet" thing. It was really only a matter of time as I was shocked when I first heard about silk road. Buying drugs online and then having them sent to your home address? really? lmao

it is more complicated that that.

I would imagine anyone buying things from this site would not sent to their home address. That said, I can't imagine a way that isn't sketchy.

And using a fake name or bogus looking packaging is a red flag that will get your mail looked at. However, I know people who have personally used them without problem. Risky though.

Also, not everyone lives in the United Police States of America.

Still though… I don't really know what the best way to go about this would even be :S

half ass reporting.it wasn't silk road. it was "the farmers market"

Read the full article. Paypal is about the most traceable currency around.

I bet, no article required to convince me… I'm assuming that's why most of these guys stick to bitcoins.

Offshore banking. Belize, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Seychelles, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Be smart.
