Ok so I'm completely new to IRC and I just joined my first few irc channels today (#anonops #opnewblood #ufonet) to see what it's like and somehow even though I'm connected to a vpn it says that I have joined with my normal IP. Do other people see this and how can I fix this and how did it happen in the first place?

Actually that's not the problem. I have my vpn running on my host and for some reason my kali guest is not going through my vpn like it usually does.
Other people do see your IP address on IRC yes. I know that some networks allow you to register and set a vhost to cover your IP. If you don't want your IP to be visible you will need to get your VPN working.
