If u want to get hands on Kali Linux live then it's easy.
Make a kali linux bootable usb . Get the iso from the https://www.kali.or
Make sure your Mac is bootable from usb. As Mac supports EFI, check your EFI settings.
Download and install rEFInd.
Install Kali to a USB.
Reboot while holding the control or alt key, can't remember which at the moment.
Once in Kali, create a partition, or create a partition in OSX.
Then install from USB.
This is off the top of my head, so if I got something wrong please let me know.
